Kentucky Pharmacists Political Advocacy Council

The Kentucky Pharmacists Political Advocacy Council was established in May 2006 and unveiled at the 2006 annual meeting of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association. Based on the comments of many Kentucky Pharmacists and the political uncertainty of that period, the KPhA Board of Directors determined that increased political involvement of pharmacists was a must if we were to have any chance of being effective in our efforts to influence positive outcomes of legislation and regulations affecting the business and practice of pharmacy

In whatever setting you practice pharmacy, there is a business component to your practice. Where is the voice of pharmacy when proposals that directly impact all pharmacists are being considered? Are we just too busy with the practice of pharmacy to be aware of and concerned about the outside influences that shape our profession? We want to encourage every pharmacist in Kentucky to get to know your elected officials, local, state and federal. Invite them to your practice settings to show and explain to them what you do and the impact you have on the quality of life for your patients.

It is unfortunate, but a fact, that money and the appropriate distribution of money in our political system is necessary to have the opportunities to present the position of pharmacists on issues that affect our profession. Simply stated, we really need more pharmacists to make a financial commitment to the PAC. It is the responsibility of every pharmacist to support the pharmacy profession with your time, talent or treasure. At this time, we need your treasure. Please do not believe that if you don’t support pharmacy, others will do it for you. Pharmacy is truly a wonderful profession with a variety of opportunities for all of us. We need your financial help to maintain the vibrancy and stability of our profession.
