Targeting the Sweet Spot: Inpatient Glycemic Management - Home Study (0.1 CEU)

Glucose fluctuations are common among hospitalized patients, regardless of a diabetes diagnosis, and poor glycemic control has been linked to increased morbidity, mortality, and prolonged hospital stays. As inpatient glycemic management continues to evolve, pharmacists play a critical role in optimizing insulin regimens, preventing complications, and ensuring evidence-based care. This session will review the 2026 American Diabetes Association Standards of Care updates for inpatient glycemic management, including individualized treatment strategies for critically ill and non-critically ill patients, peri-operative glucose management, and updated recommendations for diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state. Participants will also explore emerging technologies such as computer-based glucose management systems, continuous glucose monitoring, and inpatient insulin pump use. Through discussion of current guidelines and evolving clinical data, pharmacists will gain practical strategies to improve glycemic outcomes and enhance patient safety across hospital settings.
