2022 Incentive Grant Program

Incentive Grant Program 
The Kentucky Pharmacy Education and Research Foundation (KPERF) is proud to announce the opportunity to award five $1,000 grants for projects aimed at patient-centered care by pharmacists and innovative pharmacy practice. KPERF established the grants to provide financial support for research, education, and promotion of innovative pharmacy practice initiatives with a focus on patient-centered services within Kentucky. Applications will remain open through September 12, 2022. Please see additional details below:

Grant Requirements  
  • Applicants may be student pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, or pharmacists. If a student pharmacist or pharmacy technician submits this request, a faculty or pharmacist member must be a co-primary applicant.  
  • Applicants’ and co-primary applicants’ primary practice site must be physically located in Kentucky.  
  • Applicants and co-primary applicants must be current members of KPhA at the time of application and continue through as members to grant completion.  
  • Submit a completed application with a complete proposal to KPERF by the stated deadline.  
  • Within one year of the announcement of the grant award, the grant applicant must submit a final report to the Foundation indicating the specific outcomes.  
  • The results are to be provided as a poster or platform presentation at the KPhA Annual Meeting in June.  
 
While not required, the report/article may be optionally submitted for peer review and publication.
 
Appropriate Use of Grant Funds
Full payments will be made upon receipt of the completed Grant Acceptance/Agreement forms. Grant funds may be used only for direct costs associated with the development and implementation of the project described in the application. Expenditures for indirect costs (overhead) will not be funded. Salaries for recipients will not be allowed; however, consultant fees, fees for research/technician services, and expenses for administrative services may be permitted if submitted in the proposed budget to the KPERF. Travel expenses and conference fees will not be funded. Monies may be used for reasonable printing costs relative to materials used for the project. Funding through and from other sources is permitted. Projects and related reports must recognize the Kentucky Pharmacy Education & Research Foundation (KPERF) as a grantor. Final expense reports must be submitted once the project has ended. Reports shall include funding descriptions, vendors, issue dates, and other relevant information. 
 
Application Procedure  
The application process requires the submission of the application document and a detailed proposal with appropriate attachments, as outlined below. Please upload the application and proposal in PDF format as one document, if possible.

Proposal 
Maximum of three (3) typewritten pages in Times New Roman, 11-point font, and 1.5 lines spacing addressing the following: 
  • General project description (please include how you believe this will advance the practice of pharmacy)  
  • Project objectives  
  • Methods to be utilized  
  • Evaluation strategy
  • Timetable for the project  
  • Budget – Include the total project budget outlining specific funds requested for this grant.  
  • Projected utilization of any data or outcomes. In other words – the point or purpose of the project or study.
You should also include (not included in the 3-page limit) any supporting documents such as samples of any assessment tool(s), survey(s), or patient materials you plan to utilize. Please include a basic structure and plan if these are not fully developed.  
 
Submissions 
Applications must be submitted electronically and received by Monday, September 12, 2022. Electronic submissions shall be submitted to fellow@kphanet.org with the subject line “Incentive Grant Application.” The Foundation will NOT accept faxed or mailed submissions. Applications should be submitted in one pdf document, if possible. All submissions will receive a confirmation receipt. It is the responsibility of the applicant to verify such a receipt. Applicants that do not receive a confirmation of receipt within 72 hours of submission have an obligation to follow up to assure there was not an email issue and that the application was received.  
 
Review Procedures 
Grant submissions will be initially reviewed by the Grant Review Committee of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Pharmacy Education & Research Foundation and will consider the following criteria.  
  • KPhA Membership of primary applicant and co-primary applicant
  • Completeness of application and proposal  
  • Significance of the project 
  • Clarity of project objectives  
  • Project design  
  • Adequacy of resources available to complete the project
  • Evaluation strategy and intended outcomes  
  • Reasonableness of budget  
  • Probability of completing the project  
  • Utilization of resulting data or outcomes or purpose of study/project
A copy of the form that the Reviewers will utilize is available here. The Foundation’s Board of Directors will confirm the final awardees. All members of the KPERF Board, including the Grant Review Committee, must disclose any potential relationships or conflicts of interest with any potential awardees and, if deemed relative, must recuse themselves from the grant evaluation and approval process. Members of the Kentucky Pharmacy Education & Research Foundation Board of Directors are not eligible to be applicants, co-applicants, or co-investigators on any grant submissions.  
 
Award Presentation, Timetable, and Payment 
Successful awardees will be notified no later than October 1, 2022. Full payments will be made upon receipt of the completed Grant Acceptance/Agreement forms and signed by the awardee, following this initial announcement of the grant award.  
 
Awards will be formally announced at the Kentucky Pharmacists Association Fall Conference on October 28-29, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky. While not required, the Foundation encourages successful recipients to be present for this recognition.  Applicants that are not selected will also receive a notice at or around the same time. This notice will briefly explain why the grant was not selected.
